Consultant Plastic Surgeon Mr Philip Lim can treat a number of different lesions on the body. Following a thorough consultation where Mr Lim will examine the lesion carefully he will advise on a suitable procedure to remove the lesion if you would like to go ahead with surgery. Local anaesthetic is applied to numb the area at the treatment site to reduce discomfort. A small incision is made and the lesion is very carefully removed. Sutures are used to close the skin together and a dressing applied. The patient will return to see the nurse 5-6 days later to have sutures removed if needed and the dressings changed.

For surgical removal of skin lesions, Innersense Aesthetics Medical follows high standards of practice by sending the removed tissue for histopathology sampling, ensuring the highest standard of patient safety and care. The patient will then receive a letter with the histology results. This is sent within 6 weeks from the date of the procedure.

‍Lipomas‍

Lipomas are small fatty round or oval shaped lumps that grow under the skin. They are non-cancerous (benign) and are caused by an overgrowth of fat cells. Lipomas can grow anywhere in the body, but they are usually found on the shoulders, neck, chest, arms, back buttock and thigh. To the touch they feel soft and doughy and can range in size from a pea to a few centimetres in diameter.

Cyst

A cyst is a sac like pocket under the skin that contains fluid that can look like a lipoma.
Cysts are closer to the surface than lipomas. Cysts are firm to the touch whereas lipomas are soft and dough like. Certain cysts may be red and inflamed. Cysts can grow anywhere on the body and are mostly non-cancerous (benign) There are various different types of cysts.

Moles

‍Moles are a common type of skin growth. They appear as small deep brown spots and are caused by clusters of pigment (melanocytes). Most moles are harmless and rarely become cancerous however being aware of your moles and being able to detect any changes is important to detect skin cancer.
Moles are surgically removed by scalpel. Procedures on the face are only conducted by consultant plastic surgeons.

Cherry Angioma

Cherry Angiomas or Campbell de Morgan spots are a type of skin lesion. They are a collection of small blood vessels, and they get their name by their distinctive red colour. They are caused by broken or damaged blood vessels within them. They are either flat or raised in shape and size and usually found on the torso, arms, and shoulders. This is a benign skin lesion but if scratched, rubbed, or knocked they can bleed.
