The new oral Wegovy (semaglutide tablets) was approved in the UK in June 2026 and is now available at IAM.

What is oral Wegovy?

Oral Wegovy contains semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist.

GLP-1 is a naturally occurring hormone involved in appetite and food intake. Semaglutide mimics some of the effects of GLP-1, helping regulate appetite and increasing feelings of fullness.

Unlike traditional Wegovy treatment, which is administered as a once-weekly injection, the new oral formulation is taken as a once-daily tablet.  If you don’t like needles or would prefer not to administer a weekly injection, a daily tablet provides another way of receiving semaglutide. The tablet should be taken whole on an empty stomach after fasting for at least eight hours, with a small amount of water.

After taking the tablet, food and drink should be avoided for at least 30 minutes, as eating or drinking sooner can reduce absorption.

Although the new tablet offers an exciting alternative, it isn’t designed to replace healthy eating and physical activity.  The best results are achieved as part of a comprehensive weight-management programme incorporating:

Medical assessment + appropriate medication + nutrition + physical activity + ongoing support

Medication can help reduce appetite and make lifestyle changes easier, but building sustainable habits remains an important part of long-term weight management.

Is oral Wegovy right for you?

There is no single weight-loss treatment that is right for everyone.

During your consultation, our Nurse Prescriber will  consider your BMI, medical history, current medication, previous weight-management attempts, lifestyle and individual goals before deciding whether semaglutide is appropriate.

At Innersense Aesthetics Medical, our approach is centred around you and ensures a safe, medically supervised and individualised weight management support.
